Colouring Blackwood is light brown to dark brown, sometimes with a red tinting and occasional black streaks.
Sapwood is straw coloured. Additional colour is in the grain which can be straight
(QS) or wavy/cathedral (B/S) with a natural lustre

Workability Blackwood possesses a deep lustrous grain and is highly resilient, yet easy to work. It is very stable and long
lasting. It takes a high finish which gives it a statement of style and quality to furniture and joinery products.
Particular care should be taken to avoid inhalation of Blackwood dust
Wood Density Approximately 640kg/m³ @ 12% moisture content
Hardness/ Janka 5.9 seasoned
Durability Class 4 (refer AS 1604). In-ground durability of heart wood is low. Durable for internal use but should only be
used externally if protected from the weather.
Strength Group Seasoned SD4 unseasoned S4.
Movement Between 25% and 5% MC, radial movement is approximately 0.16% per 1% MC Change; tangential
movement about 0.27% per 1% MC change
