Is one of Tasmania's most durable timbers and due to its density has to be seasoned with care.
Tasmanian Southern Blue Gum grows in eastern coastal regions of Tasmania in wet or dry sclerophyl forest.
Plantations for pulp and paper fibre, it is now the worlds most widely planted eucalypt.
Tasmanian Southern Blue Gum is in 25mm thickness only and is subject to availability.

Colouring Pale straw to brown, often with blue to green/grey tones. Material from re-growth resource can exhibit shades of pink. The sapwood is paler than the hardwood but often difficult to distinguish.

Other Common Name Southern Blue Gum, Blue Gum (not to be confused with Sydney Blue Gum)
Workability Although high in density good results can be achieved with careful working and correct machinery. Combined with its hardness and light colour makes it ideal for sports/commercial floors.
Wood Density Approximately 900 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content. Unseasoned density approximately 1100 kg/m³

Strength Group Seasoned SD2, unseasoned S3
Movement Between 25% and 5% MC, radial movement is approximately 0.49% per 1% MC change; tangential movement about 0.61% per 1% MC change. |
